Continued ambiguity on Rathmines Post Office

In the Seanad today I sought clarity on various public statements made by An Post, Minister Eamon Ryan and Minister Anne Rabbitte about the future of Rathmines Post Office.

Attending the Seanad on behalf of Minister Eamon Ryan, Minister of State Ossian Smyth in his reply continued the ambiguity which surrounds this issue.  He said that An Post was converting six post offices from An Post operated to contractor operated, "one of which is the Rathmines office".

He stated that An Post had not submitted any consent request in relation to disposal of the existing Rathmines Post Office.

I asked him to clarify whether post office services would remain in the present building or be transferred elsewhere. The Minister of State would not clarify that issue and would not state whether Minister Ryan intended to approve the closure and sale of the existing post office and the provision of post office services in a different premises as suggested by An Post.
